Trick or Treat in Barrington

Local

“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” Nobody misses watching this Charles Schultz special every year. I know I never do. It wouldn’t be Halloween without it. Here in the Barrington area, we are already getting into the Halloween spirit, preparing for the fun of dressing up and going out for tricks or treats.

By the way, if you are looking to join in the fun, stop by the Fall Festival at Goebbert’s Farm & Garden Center. Here’s a link for the details. Another place to go for Halloween fun is the Barrington Park Department’s Fitness and Recreation Center on Lions Parkway. They’re having a Halloween Spooktacular!

Haunted Houses are the big attraction these days. Folks are crazy about putting themselves in a position to be scared out of their wits. There are a number of such spook houses in the area. Here is a list of Haunted Houses near Barrington. I hear they’re not for the faint of heart!

For the younger set, it may be best to avoid such scary lengths. There are a lot of activities for children and families, like the Goebbert’s Farm Festival I mentioned earlier. Here is a link to even more family friendly Halloween related activities in and around the Barrington area. Many local churches and groups will be having their own activities as well.

In regards to the trick or treating times, Barrington Village has them posted here. Some nice suggestions about safe practices with costumes, fire, and general behavior are also listed there. For example, one of the things they suggest is to use make-up instead of masks. It’s valuable advice.

Rachel Ray’s Everyday website has a work-up of different kinds of makeup you can do, from zombies to super heroes. Another site for kids is looklikeazombie.com, which simplifies some of the makeup tricks.

For more costume and makeup ideas, you could simply google the keywords, and click on images. Sometimes, if you see inspiring pictures, it helps to start the creative juices flowing, and you can come up with your own ideas. Being inventive and making your own costume can also end up being a lot more fun than simply buying a costume, especially for the kids. That’s really what it’s all about, right?
