Autumn Events in Barrington

Local

Autumn is upon us! That means a lot of activity in Barrington and the surrounding areas. There are various harvest events, like farmers markets, ethnic festivals such as Oktoberfest, and lots of other exciting shows and celebrations.

There is nothing that tastes better than home grown fruits and vegetables. At this time of the year, if you haven’t planted a garden, the best way to obtain freshly grown food is at a farmers market. The fun thing is that you can get a lot more than fruits and vegetables. Local honey, preserves, jams, jellies, candies, and other treats abound. These markets usually have stalls, or booths that carry all sorts of locally made products, too. You can usually find everything from a hand whittled whistle, to a rocking chair. Here is a link for a list of the most popular farmers markets in the Barrington area.

If exploring nature is your cup of tea, you can go to any of the six Forest Preserves of Cook County. There you can see all the colors of autumn, from wildflowers, to the changing leaves. Hiking, canoeing, and sitting around the campfire telling ghost stories are favorite activities at these sites.

Native American lore can be fascinating, as you will discover if you attend the 63rd Annual American Indian Pow Wow. You can watch and learn native dancing, dressing, crafts, and artwork, including working with clay. The whole family will enjoy it. You can find the details about this and other outdoor activities here.

This weekend is packed full of things to do, from the Barrington Street Fest & Dance, to the opening of an art gallery, to a string quartet presentation. If you’re a dancer, the auditions for the Nutcracker are this weekend. On a more somber note, there is also a memorial of the 9/11 attack.

These events and many others are on the calendar of events at the Village of Barrington site, found here. You will find something for everyone on this calendar, including self-help groups, charitable events like Art in the Barn, and civic events like Coffee and Conversation with the Board.

If you want to check out the nightlife in Barrington, a quick google search will yield plenty of activity. As I said, there’s something for everyone!
