Are you considering the purchase of one of the beautiful homes in the Barrington area? Congratulations! That’s a good idea. You are many decisions away from the final closing of the deal, however, and you should be sure you are making the right choices for your lifestyle.
First of all, you need to find a good real estate agent that is open and forthcoming about all aspects of the sale (see my information below). Then, check out the neighborhood surrounding the home you are considering. Is it a well-kept neighborhood? Visit the area at different times of the day (and night). See what kind of activity there is.
If you have children, you probably want a neighborhood that has a lively atmosphere. You’ll want to see that there are other children in the neighborhood, and that they look healthy and happy. Play equipment in the yards of the neighboring homes would indicate this, too. If, on the other hand, you don’t want that kind of activity, you should look for areas where the streets are quieter, and the noise level low. Night visits will be valuable here, too.
Another factor to check is the proximity of your potential home to places that you need to frequent, like work, schools, and shopping facilities. You might decide it’s even too near to a shopping mall, which could create traffic problems or unwanted treks across your property.
Once you locate the kind of neighborhood you like, it’s time to zero in on the house. Experts advise that the buyer pay for a home inspection. There are several reasons for this. One is that the inspector works for the person who is paying. The report is given to that person, and is considered confidential. You can see where this could leave some disclosure gaps on the side of the seller.
If the house is on a sizable lot, you might want to verify the exact boundaries. Also, if there are any sheds or other structures that can be moved, clarify whether they stay with the property or go with the seller. This goes for exterior ornamental items, too.
The final tip is to be sure to look within your (preferably pre-approved loan) price range. This will save you and your agent valuable time. It doesn’t help to find your dream home and then lose it because you can’t obtain a loan.
